Description
wood, brown patina, strong body, a fine grooved nose ridge, incised linear tattoos on face and body, slightly dam., cracks (head, base), minor missing parts (base, left ear), light traces of abrasion, socle;
the Buye people are a small ethnical group, living between the Bembe in the east and the Bangubangu in the west. Buye, Bembe and Basikasingo, a sub-group of the Buye, are stylistically mixed up and difficult to distinguish. Sculptures of the Buye were mainly created in honour of royal deads.
