These tapered rods were inserted in pairs in the ground. Inbetween, a wooden slat was placed, which was tapped into the recesses. Done was the musical instrument.

Like a drum, the cross-wood was struck with two wooden clappers, thus rhythmically accompanying the songs of the “bwiti” society.
