Description

wood, encrusted greyish brown patina, hands in praying gesture, marked by strong traces of weathering and insect caused damage, missing parts (base, back of the head), cracks, patina exfoliated in many areas, encrusted with clay, socle;
presumably a shrine figure from a family altar. Sometimes such figures were even carved for living people, for example young men who joined the army. They were kept on family shrines and were venerated in order to protect the soldier.
