Description

remains of polychrome paint, frame of cane and wooden slats, a small wooden mask in the centre, cassowary feathers around the rim, all parts fixed with rattan, slightly dam., minor missing parts, paint rubbed off;
three cane sticks at the bottom for fixing the shield-shaped ornament to the stem of a canoe. They were only used in war times and should protect the passengers of the boat.


The object Shield-shaped stem attachement of a canoe “kaminimbit” with the object ID 3032348 was part of the auction 68th tribal art auction on March 3, 2012. The object with the lot number 44 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,300 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
