According to Plaschke / Zirngibl, these shields were used for training purposes during the military education of Tutsi warriors.

Field photos and films from the Kivu area prove that they were also used in Tutsi dance performances where they were part of the costumed elite dancers “ntore”.


The object Shield “ingabo” with the object ID 3050524 was last part of the auction 102nd Auction at April 13, 2024 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 395 achieved a sales price of EUR 200.
