According to Plaschke / Zirngibl, these shields were used for training purposes during the military training of Tutsi warriors.

Field photos and films from the Kivu area prove that they were also used in Tutsi dance performances where they were part of the costumed elite dancers “ntore”.


The object Shield with the object ID 3048983 was last part of the auction 98th Auction at March 26, 2022 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 334 achieved a sales price of EUR 150.
