Beautiful mask with elaborate pigtail hairstyle and individual tattoos.

“Goli” masquerades originally were performed in times of danger (i. e. epidemic diseases) or at funeral ceremonies. They should accomplish connection with supernatural powers (“amwin”).

Four male / female pairs of masks, painted red and black, appear in a strictly defined order.

The masks “kpan” (“the senior woman”) appear as the last pair of masks towards the end of the “goli” mask festival. They embody the wife/s of “goli glin” (“the older man”).


The object Senior female mask “kpan” of the “goli” group with the object ID 3051378 was last part of the auction Auction 103 at November 16, 2024 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 160 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000.
