Description

wood, dyed in red, colour accents in black, european facial features and footware, slightly dam., missing part (left thumb). This figure is an Other World figure (“blolo bla”) which would probably have belonged to a Baule man which is in keeping with the tradition that such figures are of the opposite sex (for a comparable figure see Ravenhill, 1996, ill. 15). European dress and culture were incorporated in Other World figures (“blolo bla”/“blolo bian”) from the early colonial period.
