Description

wood, black und blue paint remains, agate stone string, both feet resting on the back of a high-legged animal, the left hand originally holding an object, striking long neck carved with rings, scarification marks on the face, rest., dam., insect caused damage, cracks;
the Igala occupy about five thousand square miles of land east of the Niger River and south of the Benue. The figures of the Igala are thought to bring good luck and prosperity to the families of their owners, and to serve as guardians of the children.


The object Seated female figure with the object ID 3041023 was last part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction at November 5, 2016 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 290 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000.
