The genre of colon figures developed during the colonial period. It is still disputed today whether the statues were originally seen as satirical caricatures of colonial officials or simply as depictions of new subjects in local styles.
Whether the original statues were intended to be purely ornamental or also served a ritual function is also debated by anthropologists.
The object Seated colon figure with the object ID 3050995 was part of the auction Auction 103 on November 16, 2024. The object with the lot number 27 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,800 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
