wood, greyish brown patina, partly encrusted, elegant curved shape, habile handle, slightly dam., minor missing parts, cracks, traces of weathering, abrasion of paint;
such club-type sceptres were formerly often listed as Senufo axes, at which Piet Meyer had already attributed them to the Lobi in 1981. According to Mottas they seem to be of Bobo origin, where they were called “kebere” and were used in so-called “joro” ritual.
The object Sceptre or dance wand “daphel” or “kebere” with the object ID 3040926 was last part of the auction 86th Tribal Art Auction at May 27, 2017 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 217 achieved a sales price of EUR 500.
