This gold lacquered iron helmet is an imitation of the courtly headgear “eboshi” from the Heian period (794-1185/1192). The front helmet decoration (“maedate”) is made of gold lacquered wood and shows four diamonds on octagonal ground with radiating wreath. Neck guard (“shikoro”) of three gold lacquered metal plates (“itamono”) with horsehair trim.
