The beaded conical crown “ade” is symbol of the sacred authority of the Yoruba king “oba”. It can only be worn by those who trace their ancestry to “oduduwa”, the first ruler of Ile-Ife, the sacred home of all Yoruba people.
The crown’s beaded veil covers the face of the wearer and depersonalizes the “oba”, turning the ruler into an abstract vision of divine power.
