Description

wood, three-part, polychrome painted, grass fibre, rest.

These masks were worn by various Dayak peoples in Central and East Borneo (Kenyah, Kayan, Modang and Bahau) at dance festivals, invoking the gods to give the people a good and bountiful rice harvest.

This composite mask, which combines features of dragon and hornbill, is considered the most prestigious of the “hudoq” masks.
