An almost identical figure shown by R. Lehuard, Les arts Bateke, Arnouville 1996, p. 373/ right (AHDRC 0013516).

According to Lehuard the western face of this figure is based on a kind of pipe bowl, “La Bretonne”, made in France, that circulated on the coast of Africa from the middle of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century.
