Description

two-piece (figure/ stool), wood, remains of polychrome paint (green, gold-coloured), collection number “173X”, rest. (toe, finger, wrist), water spots, base

Mostly female figures are known from the Akan. The few male figures represent executioners “abrafo” or priests.

The present figure may represent an Asante chief, as indicated by his dignified posture, head band “abotire” and the clan stool.


The object Rare male figure with the object ID 3046302 was last part of the auction 93rd Tribal Art Auction at November 16, 2019 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 156.
