Description

wood, rich dark brown shiny patina, tickset body with emaciated breasts and thin arms, beautiful details: carved with finger nails and shoulder blades, prominent bicoloured eyes bestow a kind of mask-like expression on the face, the mouth designed like a fishmouth with two rows of accurately cut teeth, scarification marks and coiffure extremely fine carved, slightly dam., cracks, rep. (breakages at seat and base fixed by metal clamps);
because of common stylistic features present stool can be ascribed to the same artist like two caryatid stools already auctioned at Zemanek-Münster (22 September 2007, lot 496 and 26 February 2005, lot 371). Schädler depicts a Kuba cup (Munich 1973, p. 335, ill. 483) which comes from the same artist/workshop.
