This headdress was worn during the “kworo” / “kwonro” phase in the initiation rite of the “poro” society among the Nafana (Nafara), in the centre of the Senufo.

In his publication on Senufo art, Förster reported that already by 1988 these dance crests were no longer being made and used for ritual purposes in their original form.
