"Pretty Lady" · Mexico, Chupicuaro culture · ID: 3038429
Bruno Voges, Pliezhausen, Germany
Description
fired light-beige clay, red and white pigment, with elaborate head, ear and neck ornament, metal base;
the transition from Venus figurines to “pretty ladies” was fluent. “Pretty ladies” are characterized by elaborated coiffures, abundant ornament and voluptuous bodies. Their faces are much more individualized than those of the Venus figures. Alternative to the fecundity complex, it is conceivable that they represent ancestors.
