Fijians highly prized wale teeth and presented them as marriage tokens, marks of esteem, signs of atonement and gifts in requesting a favour.

“Tabua” are still important Fijian identity markers, and many families hold them as heirlooms that are carefully stored and brought out for special occasions.


The object Prestige object “tabua” with the object ID 3051249 was part of the auction Auction 103 on November 16, 2024. The object with the lot number 333 achieved a sales price of EUR 700 with an asking price of EUR 600.
