This elaborate tusk coated with bands of relief carving with the depiction of courtiers once testified to the wealth and power of a Grassfield ruler.

It may have been intended for local use - flanking the royal stool or as a footrest - or as a trade item to increase the court treasury.


The object Prestige horn with the object ID 3045453 was part of the auction 91 Tribal Art Auction on March 9, 2019. The object with the lot number 266 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,100 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
