Description
wood, middle brown patina, drilled and incised scarification marks, mirror glass eyes, openings in the head and in the abdomen for insertion of magical mass, closed by mirror glass and an old coin (one franc from 1938), plant fibre, slightly dam., paint rubbed off, on plate;
as soon as the magical material “bilongo” was inserted by the witchdoctor, the object was considered to be “magically loaded” and its power “nkisi” could be activated by certain incantations.
