Description
heavy wood, matt greyish brown patina, traces of weathering, carved with a stylized female figure in flat relief, dam., missing parts through insect caused damage in the lower area, cracks, socle;
“togu na” describes a refuge, build for the male village eldest. It is an open construction with vertical elements supporting a thatched roof. In ideal case it consists of eight posts arranged in sinuous line, referring to the eight “nommo” ancestors. The roof is low, so that the men have to sit during the assemblage, but it keeps them cool.
The object Post of a “togu na” with the object ID 3034992 was last part of the auction 73rd tribal art auction at May 25, 2013 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 135 achieved a sales price of EUR 3,000.
