Description

wood, light greyish brown patina, hands in praying gesture, slightly dam., minor missing parts, fine cracks, strong traces of weathering, metal base;
in order to protect themselves against invisible evil spirits, the people of the Himalaya carved protective deities which were placed at important places, such as bridges, temples, rooftops of private houses or nearby fountains. They serve for protection of the family, the whole community and of living environment.
