“Mblo” masks appear on the so-called “gbagba” dances, which are performed on special occasions for entertainment. Most portrait masks “ndoma” can be recognized by their facial features, their hairstyles, and their scarifications as depictions of known men and women - even if there is no likeness according to our western conception of a portrait.
