This mask panel from the Azar Collection is published in Neyt’s standard work on Eket art (Neyt, Paris 1979, p. 20, fig. no 51).

Neyt refers to the object as a wall panel and cites it as an example of the wide range of artworks created by the Eket and Ibibio.

The Eket and Ibibio-Anang made board masks and panels with superimposed mask faces (often in three parts). They probably belong to the context of the “ekpo” society.
