Description

wood, middle brown patina, four strings of miniature glass beads, male/female, slender bodies, nearly identical carved, regular facial features (abraded), the mouth forming a line with radial scarification marks, fine work, slightly dam., cracks (male figure), missing parts through insect caused damage (underside of the bases), base;
figures carved in pairs cannot represent “blolo” spirit spouses, because they only appear as single pieces. Present pair depicts bush spirits, called “asie usu”, which were used by diviners “komien” for soothsaying ceremonies.


The object Pair of figures with the object ID 3035048 was part of the auction 75th tribal art auction on November 30, 2013. The object with the lot number 261 achieved a sales price of EUR 650 with an asking price of EUR 600.
