Description

wood, middle brown patina, four strings of miniature glass beads, male/female, slender bodies, nearly identical carved, regular facial features (abraded), the mouth forming a line with radial scarification marks, fine work, slightly dam., cracks (male figure), missing parts through insect caused damage (underside of the bases), base;
figures carved in pairs cannot represent “blolo” spirit spouses, because they only appear as single pieces. Present pair depicts bush spirits, called “asie usu”, which were used by diviners “komien” for soothsaying ceremonies.
