Description

wood (boxtree?), light and dark brown patina, pupils and forehead emblem with inlay (bone and black horn?), rectangular face with extremely broad mouth and revealed upper row of teeth, ornamental arranged wrinkles, signature backside is broken out, light abrasion of paint;
worn by actors in the roles of demon and “tengu”. “Tengu” is the name of a legendary creature, which is attributed to the category of “yokai” (ogres).


The object Netsuke: “no” demon mask “tengu” with the object ID 3039284 was part of the auction 81st Tribal Art Auction on October 31, 2015. The object with the lot number 31 achieved a sales price of EUR 600 with an asking price of EUR 300.
