Description

wood, dark brown patina, eyes with gold pigments, pupils with metal inlay, horns, mouth wide open, signature under chin, fine cracks backside on upper rim;
the “hannya” mask type originates from the “no” theatre. It represents a jealous female demon or serpent.


The object Netsuke: “no” demon mask, probably “hannya” type with the object ID 3039279 was last part of the auction 81st Tribal Art Auction at October 31, 2015 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 35 achieved a sales price of EUR 200.
