Description

coral beads, eight silver discs with spiral engraving and niello

The silver discs with spirals, used only by the Ait Massa, date back to an ancient pre-Islamic tradition and occupy a special position in Berber iconography. The number eight and the purist design of the necklace identify it as an object in its original state.

The spiral motif is a symbol of eternity and can be found all over the world from the earliest times until today.
