brass, welded repair, minor surface losses to the surface in places, base

The ensemble comprises a main house “rumah gadang” (two pcs.) and a mosque with a tiered, temple-like roof form, referencing regional architectural concepts with pre-Islamic roots in local mosque architecture.

Minangkabau brass models of this kind are best understood as representative prestige and display objects, condensing key symbols of architecture and cultural identity in miniature.

In the 19th century they were brought from Borneo by colonial officials and became particularly popular in the Netherlands.
