Description

wood, encrusted blackish-brown patina, flat oval corpus with rectangular deepening, originally inserted mirror glass missing, incised linear decor and notched ornaments, slightly dam., minor missing parts, traces of insect caused damage;
such wooden mirror frames were once widely known in Igbo-Land. They were often carried by titled women as display items in rites of installation, but they were not restricted to them. They were used by medicine men for storing secret magical utensils as well.


The object Mirror frame with the object ID 3040009 was last part of the auction 83rd Tribal Art Auction at May 28, 2016 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 276 achieved a sales price of EUR 150.
