Description

wood, encrusted blackish-brown patina, flat oval corpus with rectangular deepening, originally inserted mirror glass missing, incised linear decor and notched ornaments, slightly dam., minor missing parts, traces of insect caused damage;
such wooden mirror frames were once widely known in Igbo-Land. They were often carried by titled women as display items in rites of installation, but they were not restricted to them. They were used by medicine men for storing secret magical utensils as well.
