Description

wood, brown patina, the child on the left arm sitting on the mothers bulging belly (of a new pregnancy), slightly dam., missing parts (left forearm of the child, the mothers left foot), crack on the right side of face and body repaired with reinserted wood pieces), cracks, traces of insect caused damage, strong abrasion of paint, base;
figures of that kind are memorial statues which have portrayal character to a certain extent. Customarily the effigies were made during the lifetime for members of the royal family and dignitaries, they were venerated and on certain occasions presented to the public. The depiction of pregnancy is a symbol for feminity and fertility.
