Description

wood, polychrome paint, remains of pigments, carrying a child on the left hip, forehead scarifications “kilenge” and body scarifications “mikonda”, pierced ears, min. dam., cracks, small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion, base;
mother-and-child figures are relatively rare in Chokwe art. They express the essential role of women as the providers of life who thereby ensure the community’s continuity and prosperity.
