Description

wood, polychrome paint, remains of pigments, carrying a child on the left hip, forehead scarifications “kilenge” and body scarifications “mikonda”, pierced ears, min. dam., cracks, small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion, base;
mother-and-child figures are relatively rare in Chokwe art. They express the essential role of women as the providers of life who thereby ensure the community’s continuity and prosperity.


The object Maternity with the object ID 3040991 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 384 achieved a sales price of EUR 5,500 with an asking price of EUR 2,000.
