Description

wood, painted with shiny black colour, accents in red, white and indigo blue pigment, sitting on a massive four-legged stool with footrest, the separate worked figure of a child across the knees with its head resting on the left arm, the female offering her breast for suckling, proportionally big head with raised chin and slit-like narrowed eyes, slightly dam., cracks: on the right side of the head and the body continuing across the seat down to the floor plate (possibly rep.), rep. (left forearm), drilled hole in the right knee, base;
the Atié, who also call themselves “Akye”, are an ethnic group settling in the eastern part of the Ivory Coast’s Akan territory, sometimes already considered to be part of the Lagoon Peoples.
