ivory, honey brown patina, the eyes of mother and child with black inlay, elaborate coiffure, lip plug, abundantly adorned with armrings, neck ring and back ornament, regular facial featues, fine carving, slightly dam., hairline cracks through age, minor missing part on the underside of the base;
Owo is a town of the Yoruba in Nigeria, on the top of the triangle between Ife, the holy town of the Yoruba, and Benin, the capital of the old kingdom of this name. Due to this geographical position Owo has been exposed to both centers of art over the course of centuries.
