Description
greyish brown patina, traces of kaolin, abrus seeds (partly missing), rep. (breakages horns), missing parts, cracks, traces of abrasion, base.
The Djompre are a small ethnic group with their homeland in the Benue Plateau State in northern Nigeria, between Takum and the border to Cameroon. They call themselves “Kutep” or “Kutev”, the denomination “Djombre” - which means “cannibals” - has probably been given to them by the neighbouring Chamba.
The object Massive zoomorphic mask with the object ID 3043458 was last part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction at March 10, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 272 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,200.
