Description

wood, polychrome paint, of hollowed form with a tongue-shaped projecting beard, a bonnet of coarse sacking, embroidered with bast fibres, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
the prolonged beard “mwevu” is a sign of dignity and wisdom of the ancestors. The mask type is used at hunting and initiation rites, as well as during circumcision ceremonies. It should guarantee fertility and well-being of the community.


The object Maske “muyombo” with the object ID 3032945 was last part of the auction 69th tribal art auction at June 2, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 245 achieved a sales price of EUR 600.
