Description

wood, polychrome paint, of hollowed form with a tongue-shaped projecting beard, a bonnet of coarse sacking, embroidered with bast fibres, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
the prolonged beard “mwevu” is a sign of dignity and wisdom of the ancestors. The mask type is used at hunting and initiation rites, as well as during circumcision ceremonies. It should guarantee fertility and well-being of the community.
