Description
wood, blackish brown patina, traces of kaolin, brass tags, characteristic appendages on both sides, pair of horns, open mouth with filed incisors, raised scarification marks, min. dam., minor missing parts (appendages), base;
the most intriguing aspects of these northern Guro “zuhu” masks are “their Senufoid features”, identified by Hans Himmelheber already in 1935. The mask genre seems to have disappeared in the early 1930s, which is why we have very little ethnographic information concerning how they were used.
