Description

wood, blackish brown patina, traces of kaolin, brass tags, characteristic appendages on both sides, pair of horns, open mouth with filed incisors, raised scarification marks, min. dam., minor missing parts (appendages), base;
the most intriguing aspects of these northern Guro “zuhu” masks are “their Senufoid features”, identified by Hans Himmelheber already in 1935. The mask genre seems to have disappeared in the early 1930s, which is why we have very little ethnographic information concerning how they were used.

The object Mask “zuhu” with the object ID 3028206 was last part of the auction 77th tribal art auction at June 28, 2014 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 213 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,200.
