wood, black paint (peeled off in some areas), dark brown fond, round see-holes with metal framing, grooved contour, slightly dam. (nose, mouth), minor missing parts (backside at the rim), cracks, rep. (breakage on the right side of the face), a small piece reinserted at the same place, base;
masks like the present one are called runner masks, or “running juju”.They only appeared in dry season and their sole task was to control the cooking fire places within the village.
The object Mask “zakpai” with the object ID 3035933 was last part of the auction 75th tribal art auction at November 30, 2013 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 281 achieved a sales price of EUR 500.
