Description

wood, matt patina, polychrome paint, plant fibres, of flat form with a high towering superstructure, a stylized face indicated by painted eye pairs and a handle-shaped appendage in the middle, min. dam., cracks, traces of abrasion;
these masks are from Northern Ghana, but in the formal aspects of their construction they bear some important similarities to certain Gurunsi and Bwa mask styles from Burkina Faso.


The object Mask “sigma” with the object ID 3035822 was last part of the auction 75th tribal art auction at November 30, 2013 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 93 achieved a sales price of EUR 800.
