Description

wood, painted in red, black and white, carved with a moustache, slightly dam., abrasion, small traces of insect caused damage, crack and missing part backside;
only little is known about the usage of Nepalese masks. According to field studies there is a category of masks sculpted in the memory of deceased ancestors, a group of masks representing demons, and another group depicting clowns.


The object Mask of “hanuman” (“King of the apes”) with the object ID 3031591 was last part of the auction 71st tribal art auction at November 24, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house and had the lot number 15.
