Presumably, this wrinkled face with asymmetrical features and pointed lips is a mask from the “kyōgen” theater.

In contrast to the serious “nō” drama, the “kyōgen” is a type of comedy theater that uses masks designed to make the audience laugh. Thus, most “kyōgen” masks have a happy expression or are extremely distorted.
