wood, brown patina, red pigment, black paint, pointed nose and protruding chin caricaturing Europeans, tube-shaped knotted costume, strips of animal skin, magical accessory: grass fibre and metal sheet pendants, various drilled holes, traces of old age, abrasion of paint, cracks;
in public performances “katoyo” helped Chokwe communities to cope with the presence of outsiders and their new forms of political influence.
