Description

wood, rattan bonnet, covered with sacking and set with an abundant wig of plant fibre, strings of glass beads at the parting, “chijingo”-scarification marks on forehead and cheeks, “mupila” beside the eyes, min. dam.;
the light skin colour, rejected by some in favour of darker tones, evidently corresponds to an ideal of beauty espoused by some carvers and audiences.
