Description
wood, lusterless dark brown patina, kaolin, traces of camwood powder, tongue-shaped beard “mvevo” with bunches of plant fibre around the rim, eyes with extreme hanging lids (“zanze”), remains of a raffia bonnet, traces of insect caused damage, missing parts backside at the rim;
the mask was worn horizontal on the head. It was used at initiation and circumcision rites for young boys and in ceremonies conducted in order to achieve good luck in hunting or efficient harvest.
