Description

wood, red pigment, entirely coated with copper sheet (fixed by nails), plant fibre beard with rattan bowl, min. dam., insect caused damage (back), base.
Copper-covered masks were considered highest in rank, they were worn at war ceremonies, celebrating brave “headhunters”. The little balls made of plaited fibres appear to symbolize masculinity.


The object Mask “mukinka” with the object ID 3043563 was part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction on March 10, 2018. The object with the lot number 452 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000 with an asking price of EUR 1,200.
