Description
wood, entirely covered with copper sheet, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion and corrosion;
these masks were said to have originally been used for initiation of young boys of the “ngongo” society as well as for fertility- and hunting rites in order to appease the spirits and make them well disposed.
The object Mask “mfondo” with the object ID 3041113 was last part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction at November 5, 2016 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 417 achieved a sales price of EUR 700.
