wood, pigments, shell inlays, plant fibres, old label No. “182”
This rare type of “malagan” mask features a crab carved in the round at the centre of the horizontal composition, flanked by stylised fish motifs. Holes on the reverse with preserved fibre remains indicate the original attachment of a now-lost hood or carrying structure.
